True Spirits from a True Distiller.

When we founded Woody Creek Distillers, we knew we wanted to make nothing but the finest craft spirits, each with a unique taste and character that was true to the origins of that spirit.

It’s a standard we hold ourselves to every day. It's why we grow and harvest some of our ingredients ourselves, like the potatoes for our premium vodka. It's why we only source our grains from trusted Colorado farms, like the rye in our 100% rye mash whiskey

We distill every spirit we make in our own custom Carl stills. We never use neutral grain spirits, or blend with base spirits from other distillers. So you can rest assured that every bottle produced by Woody Creek Distillers will be truly handcrafted to the highest standards.

Woody Creek Distillers is owned by Mary and Pat Scanlan and Mark Kleckner. After years pursuing their own careers, these three longtime friends came together to create a line of spirits whose quality is a lasting legacy for their community, families and friends. Woody Creek Distillers is proud to use produce grown on their family farm and the farms of their neighbors.

Mary Scanlan,  CEO

Mary, with her husband Pat and their two kids, call Woody Creek, Colorado home. A longtime small business owner in Basalt, Mary also contributes her time and energy to several nonprofit organizations in the Aspen Valley. At Woody Creek Distillers, Mary oversees architecture, design, retail and tasting room operations, as well as marketing and events.

A Colorado native, Mark left the Centennial State decades ago to work in the defense business, eventually working in mergers and acquisitions, helping close half-billion-dollar deals. But after years in his Washington, D.C. office, Kleckner realized his dream was to return to the Colorado mountains and build something from scratch. After teaming up with friends Pat and Mary Scanlan, that dream became Woody Creek Distillers.

In another life, Pat was a missile and space network engineer for Lockheed Martin and IBM, with clients such as NORAD, U.S. Space Command and Air Force Missiles and Space with advanced Top Secret Security Clearance. His wife Mary brought him to Woody Creek more than a decade ago. Pat owned and ran a liquor store in Basalt, Colorado, where he began wading into the work it would take to become America’s top distiller.

David began his business career as a trader with Bank of America in Manhattan. After ten years, David exchanged in his Wall Street career for the pastoral life of a hazelnut farmer in the South of France, before taking on another adventure — circumventing the globe as a crewmember aboard the tall ship, Picton Castle. He has studied distilling and spirits around the world before finding himself managing the stills at Woody Creek Distillers.

Keith Hemeon, a veteran of wine and spirits sales in the Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley, joined Woody Creek Distillers as Vice President of Sales in May 2013. Hemeon won both on- and off-premises Salesman of the Year at Southern Wine and Spirits Distributors (Colorado) in 2009 and 2011. After almost a decade with the distributor, Hemeon’s understanding of both the independent sales force and the elements needed for a rising brand such as Woody Creek Distillers made him the optimal choice for the sales executive.

Where we make it is as important as how we make it.

We know that growing and sourcing our produce locally, not only makes for the best ingredients, it’s also good for the environment. We are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the natural resources of Woody Creek. Our distillery is a low-emissions facility, using the most efficient distillation technology available. The waste from our raw products goes back to the Scanlan family farm in Woody Creek as compost, or to local ranches as livestock feed.
